I'm doing a modeling competition on GameArtisans.org! The theme is to model a video game character cosplaying as another video game character. Wish me luck!

Figure Drawing!!

It's been awhile since the last VV session I went to. I'm really going to make an effort to go regularly! Our model this week was really awesome - it was her first time modeling, and all of her poses were great. Unfortunately I'm not really proud enough of any of the gestures to post them. ;)

Also here are some gestures from the last session I went to which I thought were kind of interesting. I think these are 2min poses.

Side view (for turnaround) of a horse I'm going to be modeling for one of my personal goals. More drawings to follow!

Feedback is welcome! I've never been able to draw horses my whole life, so I thought this would be an interesting challenge for me. I think I'm finally starting to get enough of a hang of their anatomy to caricature it. Their weird head shapes are still tripping me up a bit, particularly when you want to give them more human, expressive eyes.

I've been really lazy about posting lately. Our official game site has been up for awhile and there's a lot of great stuff up there - I think the 3D Screen shots are particularly cool if you get a chance to check them out. Here's some pics from the game which are also posted on Gamespot.

And for the hardcore Marvel fans, here's a super awesome new character reveal on Gamespot! that came out recently,

...and here's one for real.

Just goofing off. The first one is a random spear girl, and the second is a Teddy Roosevelt bust/bottle my brother gave me. :)

They're vine charcoal and charcoal pencil on newsprint.

Figure Drawing!

This Saturday was VV's first figure drawing session at the Arts Center of the Capital Reigion! We're going to have sessions once a month - I'm excited!

Here's some of what I did this Sat.

Family Walk - WIP

I just wanted to show everyone I'm still alive. Here's an animation I've been (slowly) working on for one of my personal goals at work. It definitely still needs some polish, but I thought maybe if I posted it I'd feel more motivated to finish it up. :)

... slightly grown up. I finally got a night to make a contribution to the "RE-DRAWN" blog - link to the right! It's totally rushed, but at least I'm updating my blog.

Painting!!

So my friend Marcella and I have each decided to tackle a yearly goal (for me, painting, for her, sewing) and try to put pressure on each other to actually make progress! I'm also going to be posting what I do on my blog, in the hopes that it will keep me feeling as though I'm responsible to someone. The idea is to post something either once a week, or once every two weeks.

Here's my first painting, and it's really just an exercise to get me going. It's a copy of a photograph, since I wanted to make myself start thinking more seriously about value. (I'm not going to tackle color yet - or content.. that comes last.) I think it was reasonably successful, and I look forward to doing something similar next week to improve, because there is plenty of room for improvement.

Here's a pretty random collection of sketches from the last couple of months.

Thunderdome (sketch session): Swimming Pool Monster

Thunderdome (sketch session): Making Inanimate Objects Animate

Some designs for a picture I made for my mom for Xmas. She really wanted a picture for the election race - the final image was an elephant and donkey balloon floating over DC.

Figure drawing at work. Unfortunately our model cancelled for our first session, so we just ended up drawing each other.

Turn around for a short I'm slowly working on. Design's a little flat right now, but I'm considering it a starting point.

I still have no work to share with you, blogging community, but I thought I'd post this trailer anyway.

More Ink Blots

Usagi Yojimbo. Yeah, I don't know why I thought of that either.

10/29/07

So, I got to attend my first Analogue Thunderdome session on Friday. We drew on top of ink blots - it was loads of fun, and chock full of dirty jokes about what people saw in theirs...

What I started with:

Actually the 2nd drawing I started on, and gave up on quickly since it was boring - and went back to my other sketch. Crab:

Main drawing. The guy in the middle came first, and then the lions. The ships came much later...

Done for the "Magical Implements" Thunderdome topic. I decided to go with the good old fashion Magic of Science! This is looooooosely based on Jesse Sullivan - the man with the bionic arms. If those aren't "magical implements" I don't know what are.

(If you don't know what I'm talking about, go see this
video or article.

10/11/07

Done for Moving Day topic on the Deadliest Sketch. This is a dramatization of how my entertainment center wouldn't ge through my front door and I had to give it away.

And here's that Thunderdome sketch with slightly different color. It'd be fun to go back in and do something more detailed, just save the composition.

10/10/07

This was done for a weekly sketch topic at work - we got to choose from a couple of different randomly generated phrases this week. This phrase is "an insane frog dodges a raptor (monochromic)."

I apologize for being lazy and not posting, but I just got internet in my apartment today! Woooo!

8/20/07

I haven't posted in a little bit, so here's what I've been up to:

Climb - WIP - making slowwww process on this one. Little tiny changes.

LASERS! This is FIRST PASS, so be kind. If anyone could give me a crit, I would totally appreciate it. (Yes, I know his transitions are awkward thus far - It's really just a question of the keys at this point.) Thanks!

3 Bros! This is for last week's Deadliest Sketch. Unfortunately, I think it looked a lot cooler as a thumbnail... Color is in progress and will follow.

Also, here are some cool links that Michelle found.

Pool Shark

Ok, so I did this pretty mediocre sketch for this week's "Deadliest Sketch" - and there are a bunch of problems with it - BUT, I'm posting it here so I have an excuse to pose this video. Watch the whole thing (but the best part's at 2:09)

So awesome.
